Matches vs Brandeis

The Bobcats had a chance to improve on their #30 ranking and get some revenge when they took on the #19 Brandeis Judges. After losing 8-1 last year the Bobcats were hungry and came out firing in doubles. They were up a break on all three courts before the Judges started their comeback. At #1 Brandeis was down 3-0 then won 8 of the next 9 games for the 1-0 lead. At #2 Nicole and Ashley held on in a close 8-6 match to tie things up 1-1. At #3 Kristen and Erika played a long set but came up just short in the tie-breaker for a 2-1 Brandeis lead heading into singles.

At #4 Erika gutted out a marathon match, 6-2 1-6 7-6 (7-5) for the bobcats first singles point. The other came at #5 from Lucy Brennan in a 6-3 6-2 match were she mixed up her chips and drives to attack the net and keep her opponent off balance. The bobcats had two other close matches at #1 and #6 where we came up just short in 3 sets and the team score was 6-3 for Brandeis. Overall we fought hard and played well, but we didn’t execute when we needed it and Brandeis won most of the close matches. The Bobcats didn’t hang their head and will be ready for another tough match the following day against Wesleyan.

After the women’s match the men’s match commenced. After losing 6-3 last year the Bobcats came out ready to ball. They brought lots of energy in doubles and continued serving big. #1 and #3 finished at the same time both winning their matches 8-2 and 8-3. At #2 Timmy and Pierre won 8-5 and completed the men’s 5th straight doubles sweep.

When many teams would rest, the bobcats were hungry for more. At #1 Timmy won 6-1 7-5 using his serve and forehand to dictate. At #2 Matt played great and never let up on a single point, taking his opponent 6-2 6-3. At #3 Rob dropped 3 games in his 6-3 6-0 win. At #4 Jeff dropped a tough first set before changes his target and winning the second and third set 6-2 6-1. Pierre continued his high level of play and came out on top 6-2 6-3. At #6 Kyle won 6-1 6-2 to complete the 9-0 sweep.

It was a great match for the men. They brought energy on every point and never let up, working as hard as they could on every ball. They stayed in a great mode the entire match and controlled the things they could control.
